The 1956 science fiction film Invasion of the Body Snatchers captured middle class America’s cold war paranoia with scenes of seed pods that duplicated and replaced neighbors, friends, and family. For members of the John Birch Society, this sort of paranoia was warranted. Even more, it required extreme action to prevent the enslavement of the world.
